RESIDENTIAL CRACK FILLING:
Crack filling is used as a first defense against pavement deterioration because it offers several important benefits. Effective crack filling keeps water from entering and weakening the base or sub-base. It helps preserve the pavement adjacent to the cracks; prevents sand, stone, and dirt from making its way into open cracks causing compressive stresses; and extends pavement life by minimizing crack growth.
Proper attention to cracks will prevent problems from spreading and double the life of the pavement. Pavement repair in the early stages of deterioration will pay big dividends later by delaying costly resurfacing.
On driveways we use trowel grade crack filler. After the surface has been prepared we will apply the filler to the cracks and use a v-shaped squeegee to work the materiel into the crack. This technique also leaves the crack filler even with the surface of the driveway.

COMMERCIAL CRACK FILLING:
On parking lots and roadways we use a Crafco Machine to apply our hot rubberized crack sealant. This machine heats the sealant to the right temperature and keeps it there. This machine has a wand and a pump so the crack sealant is pumped through the wand and injected into the crack. The wand leaves a neat three inch band on the surface of the pavement protecting the crack from water penetration. Some contractors do not use this type of machine, they will use a direct fire kettle that is not oil jacketed or thermostatically controlled and can easily overheat the sealant, once it has been overheated it is ruined. Unfortunately you will have no way of knowing until a few months later when the sealant stars failing.
We use Crafco’s sealant that is specifically manufactured for parking lots in our region. (No, not all crack sealant is the same, and we know it.) Crafco engineers many different types of sealant for several applications. We work closely with Crafco to make sure we are using the best crack sealant available for your application.
